As the daughter of a second grade teacher who has been teaching for more than 35 years, I thought I’d share a this great piece of advice: Most teachers do not want pencils and candy as an appreciation gift. Yes, it’s the thought that counts, but their lives do not revolve around pens and pencils. Teachers are normal human beings outside of the classroom, so a gift card to a restaurant, the mall, a pedicure, manicure, Target (never Barnes and Noble) are great gifts. And, if money is tight, my mom always appreciates a hand-written note from the student instead of a Starbucks card that was probably picked up 10 minutes before school. Just thought I’d share this with everyone as you consider teachers this week!
